Born From a
Love of Fire

Punch pizza was founded in 1996 with a singular obsession: to bring the true taste of Neapolitan pizza to Minneapolis. Our founders traveled to Naples, Italy, studied under certified master pizzaiolos, and returned with the knowledge, recipes, and passion to craft something extraordinary.

Every pizza we make is baked in our hand-built, wood-fired ovens at over 900°F — reaching perfection in just 90 seconds. We use only the finest ingredients: San Marzano tomatoes, imported Italian flour, fresh local produce, and mozzarella made fresh daily.

What started as a single location on West Lake Street has grown into a Minneapolis institution, serving thousands of loyal customers who keep coming back for that unmistakable char, that perfect chew, and that unforgettable taste.

1996

The First Flame

Punch pizza opens its doors on West Lake Street in Minneapolis. A hand-built wood-fired oven, a small menu, and an enormous passion for authentic Neapolitan pizza.

2001

Naples Certification

Our founding pizzaiolos receive official certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Naples, Italy — becoming one of the first certified Neapolitan pizzerias in the Midwest.

2006

Second Location Opens

Growing demand and a loyal following inspired us to open our second Minneapolis location in St. Paul, bringing the wood-fired experience to even more neighborhoods.

2012

Best Pizza in Minneapolis

Punch pizza is named "Best Pizza in Minneapolis" by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine — an honor we've held multiple years, cementing our place as the city's beloved pizzeria.

2018

Community Kitchen Initiative

Launched our Community Kitchen program, partnering with local schools and nonprofits to teach pizza-making and support food security in underserved Minneapolis neighborhoods.

2024

Online Ordering Launches

We brought our beloved menu online, making it easier than ever to get your favorite wood-fired pizza delivered fresh to your door across the Minneapolis metro area.

Naples-trained and AVPN certified, Marco has been crafting perfect pies at Punch since 2003. His dough recipe is legendary — a 72-hour ferment that delivers unmatched flavor.

Sofia Andreou

Executive Chef

Sofia brings culinary school brilliance to our seasonal menu, crafting toppings and sides that complement the perfect Neapolitan base. Her salads and starters are equally celebrated.

James Kowalski

General Manager

James oversees every aspect of the Punch pizza experience with warmth and precision. His hospitality philosophy — "every guest is family" — is felt the moment you walk through our door.
